What will this program do for me?

By utilizing all of your benefits in your ID PROTECT program, you will have peace of mind in knowing that your Social Security Number is being monitored (24/7), and that you will have expert assistance should an identity theft or fraud crisis arise. You will also learn about preventative measures you can take to help prevent the theft of your identity, protect your credit reputation and enhance your overall financial security.

What does my benefit include?

Your benefits include true Identity Monitoring of your SSN/DOB (additional authorization, information and form completion required), unlimited fraud resolution assistance, letter/document preparation, legal referrals (if necessary), financial coaching for credit restoration strategies and up to **1,000,000 Unauthorized Electronic Funds Transfer coverage for personal checking and savings accounts, including up to **$25,000 in fraud expense reimbursement insurance coverage.

How do I work with someone over the phone?

Simply call the Identity Theft Department at 1-800-706-5749 between the hours of 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, Pacific Time. If you call during evening or weekend hours, leave a message with the MSA/CLC answering service and your call will be promptly returned the next business day. (If you have been arrested, ask for a legal referral from the after hours operator.)

Who is covered?

You are covered. In addition, if you have a “family” membership, your spouse/domestic partner and family members are also covered.  An “individual” membership provides (1) Identity Monitoring account, while a “family” membership provides (2) Identity Monitoring accounts.  (Additional information and an authorization forms are required for each account.)

What is true Identity Monitoring?

This benefit provides you (your spouse/domestic partner and family members, if applicable,) with continuous (24/7) identity monitoring whenever your SSN/DOB is in motion in monitored public databases. Identity Monitoring allows us to alert you whenever we are notified of suspicious activity involving your SSN/DOB, including credit matters. If we contact you by email with an “ID Alert,” and you are unaware of the activity involving your SSN/DOB, it could be the first sign of ID theft, fraud or misuse/confusion regarding your Social Security Number.  These public databases include employment records, DMV activities, credit matters and criminal arrest/conviction records in all (50) states. Thereafter, prompt preventative action can be taken with the help and guidance of a Fraud Resolution Specialist™ (FRS) to stop or limit the damage to your identity and credit reputation, which may take place if the situation is ignored or delayed!

Early “alerts” of suspicious activity often lead to the arrest and prosecution of the ID theft thief.  Without Identity Monitoring, there is very little chance the crook will be caught.  ID Monitoring has resulted, to date, in the apprehension of (1) out of (12) thieves due to early detection-- before the fraudster is aware he/she has been discovered and that authorities have been notified.

Remember, your best defense for guarding your identity, good credit and preventing identity theft is to discover any unauthorized SSN/DOB activity as quickly as possible. Think of Identity Monitoring as the equivalent of the smoke alarm going off in your "house of credit" and how this burning house of credit can completely destroy your identity and credit reputation. (According to the Federal Trade Commission, the average time it takes to resolve an identity theft matter is (170) hours of your time, together with an average "out-of-pocket" cost to you of $3,257.00). And this does not include actual charges in your name, money removed from your accounts or defense costs for bad debts or criminal acts.

What Kind of legal assistance will I get if I have an Identity Theft crisis?

You will receive unlimited access to a trained Fraud Resolution Specialist™ (FRS) who conducts, with your help and permission, (7) emergency response activities within (2) business days of your call. Some of these activities include helping you to place a "fraud alert" (or “security/credit freeze”) on your Social Security Number, obtaining a free credit report for review and analysis, administering the costly steps to dispute fraudulent debts, assisting and/or preparing for your signature necessary documents, correspondence, fraud affidavits, and notification to State and Federal authorities, as well as helping you to create a case file to document actions taken during the recovery and resolution process.  The FRS will also provide you with a free ID Theft Emergency Response Kit.™ 

Bottom line:  You will receive incredible peace of mind and be able to sleep better knowing a trained and experienced FRS is taking on the fraudulent events and dealing with creditors on your behalf.  (You will need to sign and have notarized a Limited Power of Attorney, if you wish to have the FRS act on your behalf with creditors, collections firms, law firms and regulatory agencies.)  

Each FRS is an experienced fraud representative and has been trained under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).  Each FRS is also educated and familiar with prohibited “collection” company activities under the Fair Debt Credit Protection Act (FDCPA).  Once such conduct is pointed out to aggressive collectors under threat of potential liability under the FDCPA, the collection firms generally move to full FDCPA compliance and quit harassing you at home or work, as required by federal law.

What is the legal benefit?

In the event it is determined you should consult with an attorney about damages resulting from a specific identity theft issue (or unlawful collection acts), you will receive up to a (60) minute telephone, or face-to-face, consultation with an attorney at no cost. If you decide to retain the attorney after the consultation, you will be provided with a preferred rate reduction of 25% off of the attorney's standard hourly or fixed fee rates. (If you have been arrested because someone has stolen your identity, you may request an attorney to represent you; this includes contact after standard business hours and on weekends.)

What is the financial coaching benefit?

As a member, you are entitled to up to a (60) minute telephone consultation with a Financial Counselor at no cost. These counselors can assist you with restoring and rehabilitating your credit reputation and financial status, which have been damaged as a result of an identity theft crisis or fraud.

Each counselor has undergone extensive training in this area and has acquired training under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Each is also trained under the Fair and Accurate Transactions Act (FACTA), in order to assist in a complete review and understanding of your credit report.

All financial counselors are "Certified Credit Counselors," in addition to being CFP's, Enrolled Agents, CPA's, Certified Mortgage Analysts, former bankers and insurance professionals.

What is Identity Theft Expense Reimbursement?

This coverage provides up to **$1,000,000 in Unauthorized Electronic Funds Transfer coverage of personal checking and savings accounts, including up to **$25,000 of Identity Theft Fraud Expense Reimbursement coverage with a zero deductible for certain fraud-related expenses, such as: Lost wages as a result of time off work to investigate and handle any ID theft losses, reasonable attorney's fees (appointed by the insurance company) for defense costs for specific civil suits, notary and certified mailing costs for completing fraud affidavits, long distance phone charges associated with re-establishing a member's identity, along with many other out-of-pocket expenses that are related to the recovery of your identity.

What happens if I am not satisfied with the results of my being an ID PROTECT member?

If you are not satisfied with any part of your membership, simply call the ID PROTECT phone line toll free at 1-800-706-5749. Your membership will be promptly cancelled. There will be no further charges to your chosen method of payment. There are no long-term commitments beyond your month-to-month payments. See your Handbook for complete details. Cancellations and refunds are as follows:

  1. Cancellations within the first (5) calendar days of the billing period: If you cancel during this timeframe, you are entitled to a full refund for that billing period, for which you have paid.

  2. Cancellations (6) or more calendar days after the billing period: If you cancel within this timeframe, you will receive a full refund for all subsequent billing months for which you have pre-paid (if any). You will be entitled to full identity theft benefits during the billing month in which the cancellation notice is received.

How do I enroll?

You can enroll in ID PROTECT, on-line, by clicking the following web link: www.msaidprotect.com, or call 1-800-706-5749 and request assistance in enrolling over the phone. Ask for an MSA salesperson or a Fraud Resolution Specialist™.

IMPORTANT: If you elect to have Identity Monitoring on your Social Security Number (or for your spouse/domestic partner or family member, if applicable,) it will be necessary for you (and your spouse/domestic partner and family members) to fully complete and sign the Identity Monitoring Authorization form OR enroll online.  An individual membership is entitled to (1) monitoring account, while a family membership is entitled to up to (4) monitoring accounts.  Email addresses are required for each adult (18 or older) in order to receive this benefit. (Go to the “forms” page to either complete the form online, or to print and fax/mail in the form.)

How Do I Cancel?

Simply call the ID PROTECT phone line toll free at 1-800-706-5749 to speak with an identity theft representative to cancel your account. Your account will be cancelled that business day, or the next business day, depending on the time your call is received. There will be no further charges to your account as of the date you call.
